Afro Tech 2023 is set to be held November 1st - November 5th in Austin, Texas at the Austin Convention Center.
This Annual Conference serves as the largest gathering of Black Professionals who work in STEM fields. Afro Tech serves as a platform for which Students, Entrepreneurs, and Industry Leaders can share and collaborate on ideas about emerging trends.
This years convention will have speakers such as Micheal Regan ( The Head of the EPA) , Detavio Samuels ( CEO of Revolt) and Congress Woman Maxine Waters ( US Representative of the 43rd Congressional District of California). These notable figures and many more are set to speak at the convention over the course of 5 days.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated has made history by opening the first black-owned woman laid credit union in The United States.
"For members only" The services will be available to AKA members, they're immediate family, AKA staff and credit union employees. These programs will offer a variety of banking services such as primary savings accounts and loans.
The Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority have upheld tradition and community service for over 100 years. This will now include investing billions of dollars into historically underserved communities within The United States.
Keisha Lance Bottoms:
New White House Appointment

The Biden administration has announced kiesha Lance Bottoms to serve on The President's export council. This council serves as a national advisory committee for International Trade.
This council will promote export expansion and free trade within the business industry, agricultural, labor and government sectors. This will not be bottom's first White House appointment as she served in the administration's Office of Public Engagement in 2022.
Former Atlanta mayor Kesha Lance Bottoms has a history of leadership. Navigating her constituents through the difficult times that came with the pandemic, Is nationwide protests and cyber attacks.
Bottoms is known as A capable ally and is widely respected.

Houston natives Beyoncé Knowles and Kelly Roland have joined forces with Harris County officials to assist in the development of affordable permanent housing units at 'The Bread of Life gymnasium in Huston, Texas.
This project being spearheaded by the A list celebrities will be done in collaboration with local government and institutions such as Rice University.
The housing complex will feature 31 new units of permanent housing as well as a plethora of public services for residents such as transportation and mental health assistance.
According to Harris County officials there is an "even bigger" launch a 1000 units that will be announced in September.
But for now The 8.4 million Knowles-Rowland house is set to begin construction in October.
Atlanta Native Dominique Jones, professionally known as 'Lil Baby' has opened a seafood restaurant on the edge of Atlanta University Center.
In collaboration with entrepreneur Chad Dillon, 'The Seafood Menu Restaurant & Lounge' was designed to pay homage to Atlanta's rich hip-hop culture by featuring legendary musicians such as Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye and Ray Charles.
The Seafood Menu Restaurant & Lounge is to feature a wide variety of seafoods and a handpicked selection of sauces.
Lil baby states that he eventually plans to franchise the venture and sell its signature sauces and grocery stores.

Lebron James family foundations 'I promise' Program has pledge to fill 50 units consisting of under privileged students and their families.
James, an Akron, Ohio native is committed to giving back to his community. Residents of the area welcome his contributions.
Atlanta Artist Future:
STEM Lab in Kirkwood,GA

Through his organization ' Free wishes foundation', Atlanta rapper Future has unveiled a STEM education lab in his hometown of Kirkwood,Georgia
In collaboration with the 2K foundation, the ' I am A Dreamer' Laboratory is looking to serve as a community hub for the youth and the Kirkwood area.
To facilitate their interest in participation in the diverse an exciting world of STEM education.
Tyler Perry:
Purchase of BET & VH1

Media mogul Tyler Perry has reportedly submitted a bit to purchase BET and VH1.
Recently Perry received a multitude of praise online due to reports that the bid has been finalized. However no one of an official party has confirmed or denied the claims so the reports have since been redacted.
Perry has a long history with black entertainment television. He has Been producing and launching projects with the network since 2005.
If this bid is successful he will be the 1st black man in American history to own 2 television networks.
BIG3 Basket Ball League:
6th Season starting this summer

The Big3 Basketball League has officially been recognized as the 1st black owned major sports league in the United States.
Founded in 2017 by hip hop legend 'Ice Cube'. The 3 on 3 basketball league brings together former nba and International basketball players for a fresh take on the classic game.
The 6th season of the sport begins June 25th 2023.
Howard University:
Stacey Abrams appointment

Howard University has announced that they have chosen Stacey Abrams to serve as the new inaugural W. Walters Endowed chair for race and Black Politics.

In her new role, she will lead research across the University on political issues impacting Black Americans as well as bringing speakers to discuss a range of diverse topics.
​
Her multi-year appointment is set to start September 2023.
G Unit Studios:

Businessman & Entertainer Curtis Jackson III has recently acquired a near one million sq-ft workspace for his production company G Unit Film & Television inc.
Unofficially dubbed "G Unit Studios" this location will serve as a new base of operation for current and upcoming productions such as: The Power Book series, Black Mafia Family and Den of Thieves 2.
